ENCORE! Company
Intermediate and Advanced Acting presents
EMOTIONAL CREATURE by EVE ENSLER
DECEMBER 10 and 11 7:00 pm
$5.00 at the door Box office opens 6:30
Would You Rather Be Liked or Admired?
EHS Encore! Company presents Eve Ensler’s “Emotional Creature” live onstage December 10 and 11. This writer is not sure how to talk about this production. The six girls who play the parts of girls around the world are courageous beyond measure to put a girl’s live face in front of an audience and confront it with the subject of the secret life of girls around the world. The monologues are devastatingly frank. So is some of the language. The issues are critically important to girls, humanity, civilization. Muffled, constrained, tamed, trivialized, Barbie-ized, brutalized, discarded – and still we see their potential power, their heart, their refusal to be dehumanized. From body image and fitting in to slavery and mutilation, there are things in this play that are tough to hear. But we owe it to our planet’s greatest natural resource to listen and afterwards talk and even take action. The evening will be powerful and beautiful, with a contemporary musical score which accompanies the speeches and choreographed movement by Ms. Tracy Doty. There will be a talkback offered after each performance. The theatre department is planning to have Ms. Ensler’s book, “I Am An Emotional Creature” available for purchase. Tickets are $5 at the door. Box office opens at 6:30 and curtain is at 7:00pm. If you are a girl, you must see “Emotional Creature”. You will come away feeling empowered. If there is a girl or a boy in your life, grab them, bring them with you and please do not miss this remarkable show.
Featuring: Carly Rinehardt, Kaelyn Evans, McKenna O’Meara, Cassidy Johnson, Angela Heston and Simone Christians. With Katie Murray, Evie Guay and Sarah Swain. Directed by Fran Arniotes.
Warning: language, sexuality
